Fun Holiday Lighting Moods with Alliance Bluetooth

With the onset of fall, the dropping of leaves and Halloween around the corner, it is a perfect time to experiment with fun holiday lighting. Rick Thompson, one of our awesome Customer Service Managers, has taken the opportunity to show us what different colors look like on this 12-foot skeleton.

Rick used the Alliance Bluetooth Bullet Light, BL200-bt set with a 40-degree beam spread. This fixture comes with a tunable white, unlimited color wheel, and presets of red, green, blue, amber, and purple. It has a dial for easy adjustment and dimming. He used the same light for his Christmas lighting last year, lighting his house up in a happy red and green.

Effect of Colors

We see color because certain light waves are absorbed while others are reflected.  The color of an object depends on the color light shining on it as well as the colors it reflects or absorbs. Colored objects reflect only some of the wavelengths; the rest they absorb. A white object reflects all colors, and a black object absorbs all colors.

When you shine a colored light on a colored item the results are sometimes less than desirable. For example, if you shine a yellow light on a blue car, the car will appear green which can be nice. But when you shine a blue light on a red item, it may show as black.  For landscape lighting, you can use these simple guidelines:

  • Green or greenish-blue lights enhance the colors of grass and green foliage and add depth to the scene.
  • Yellow, on the other hand, deadens the color of grass and foliage, but is used satisfactorily on some types of shrubbery and on garden sculpture as a focal point.
  • Red is best used when the scene is to be viewed from a distance and gives the appearance of firelight.
  • Blue gives a weird unnatural light and is not particularly desirable in gardens unless mixed with green. An exception is the pale bluish-white light given off by some lamps. These give a truly beautiful effect when used for lighting large shrubs and trees.

Mixing colors can create interesting multicolored shadow effects. Watch the video below to see how colors absorb and reflect. Experiment and have fun and share your fun Halloween Holiday Lighting results in a comment!
