Fall has arrived, so cold weather is at the door step. According to Golf Course Industry Magazine and AccuWeather reports, an extended winter is to come.
Our side of the country will experience more cold and snowy weather than we would like. In comparison, the southern and eastern parts of the nation will experience drier and milder weather.
Forecast
Frequent storms across the area may lead to above average amounts of snowfall for the coming season. It is predicted that we will experience more than one hard wave of snow and below freezing temperatures.
Unlike last year, in which most of the snowfall came from a few heavy-hitting storms, this winter will see snowfall into the early or middle part of spring. Similar to past winters, the hardest hit areas will be New York City, Philadelphia, D.C. and Baltimore. These areas will experience falling snow transitions to rain and sleet.
Despite the snowfall, it’s predicted that the region will have less subzero temperature days. Although, the temperature will average 3-5 degrees Fahrenheit lower than last year.
What does this mean for the Green Industry? It means, prepare early and prepare well. The work done in the fall and early winter has a direct affect on the condition of affected areas in the spring.
